The Water Picnic
I have some exciting news, The IWSA will be holding special members Water Picnic on the 13th June, 2009 at Chatsworth House,
by kind permission of the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire. The site will be next to the Queen Mary Bower as you enter Chatsworth
House on the deer park (site of country show).
Early arrival is advisable as the car park can get busy up to lunch time
(no parking on the deer park but poor mobility members can be catered for)
The morning session will consist of basic
gun dog obedience for the puppy, novice and open (experienced) dogs. This will lead to retrieval work on the deer park.
There will be a fun event of dog snooker which will lead to prizes. The dog snooker will be £2 an entry and the monies
will be donated to Macmillan Nurses or Imperial Cancer or a cancer related charity of Roger’s choosing. Members are
asked to bring home made cakes and buns to be sold again the proceeds being for the same charities
Lunch will be a picnic
or people can visit the restaurant/coffee shop.
Utilising the lessons learnt in the morning there will be water retrieval
for all groups
Members will need a dog, (if they have one) a lead and a whistle and a sense of fun. PLEASE bring children
as there is lots to do on the day and lots to see around the estate.
For those that wish to stay overnight the estate
has a caravan park and holiday cottages (ring Chatsworth House for details) or there is accommodation around the Bakewell
area.
This is a special day for the IWSA, it is the first time that we have been invited to Chatsworth House and we are
very honoured to have the privilege of holding an event there so please do come and make it a special day
If members
have any questions about the day, they can contact the organizer Chris Hinch on 0114 2323474
Kitebrook Weekend
Camping at Kitebrook is limited to 12 places only so preference will be given to members, if you want to book a place
please contact either myself or Chris Attwood on 01526 322081.
Show News
I had an e-mail
from Hazel Walker recently letting me know that Malanis Cian At Ameysford (Rio) won BAVNSC and Gundog Group 1 at Camberley
Open Show under Yvonne Billows (Robill). This gave him sufficient points for his Show Certificate of Merit (ShCM) subject
to Kennel Club approval. Rio is just two years old. There are very few shows that schedule IWS in their part of the world
so many of his points have come from AVNSC and of course his several group places. Well done I am sure you are absolutely
thrilled. I know of only one other IWS who has achieved this and that was Antdela. Alantra owned by Ant Andrews if any
of you know off any more please let me know.
News from Ireland that the newly crowned Ir Sh Ch Fynder on Shifting
Ground took Best of Breed at Cork Championship Show, took the Group under breed and group judge Chris Laverty, then went Reserve

Yet even more success for IWS’s in Ireland, today at the Open
Gundog Show organised jointly by the IWSC and the Flatcoated Retriever Society Doonbeg Leap of Faith at Currabell (Rosso)
won Puppy Dog, then won the Dog Puppy Stakes and then beat the Bitch Puppy Stakes Winner, going Best Puppy in Show,
The breed had a great day as Ir Sh Ch Fynder on Shifting Ground went Best in Show.
At the United Spaniel Association
Open Show yesterday IWS were judged by Mrs Margaret Betts, they was an entry of 7 with 2 absent on the day. Best Puppy in
the Breed was Doonbeg Heart and Soul for Pharisis owned by Sandra and David Rawlinson and Best of Breed was Holbain

Some Sad News
I was very sorry to hear that
Heather, Norman and Coleen Large have lost their young dog Ir Ch Sh Gatewood Gustav at Coleenvile (GUS)
he was fatally injured in a road traffic accident, he was only just over two years old and was bred in the UK by Pate
Wake and Shirley Whitwell it is very sad when anyone loses a dog more so when the dog is so young and it is unexpected.
Update May 2nd
Just to let you know that myself and Chris Atwood will not be available to contact
next weekend, Chris will be going on Thursday to Finland where she will be judging and I will be doing nothing exciting except
catching up on my sleep in hospital as I have to have some more treatment on Saturday, I should be home by Sunday evening,
so I will do the news on Monday 11th.
Keep the news coming!
