I received a telephone call
earlier in the week from Ant Andrews asking me to thank everyone who had sent cards and congratulations to him and Adele after
Bella won her third CC and Reserve Best in Show at the IWSA Champiionship show last weekend, in Ant’s words it was very
kind and thoughtfull of everyone.
This weekend is Leeds Championship Dog Show we did not have CC’s on offer but Vickie Norman Massa who was the
judge had an entry of 14 with 3 being absent on the day.Best Dog was Sh Ch Antdela Olleander Sh.CM, Reserve Best Dog was Hokbain
Muddy Duck (Sh Ch Zanfi Ego & Fynder Frieze at Holbain) bred by Pauline and Stuart Furber and owned in partnership with
Angie and Ian Biggs. Best Bitch and Best of Breed was Sh Ch Stanehate Sparks WILL Fly (AI) owned and bred by Judith Carruthers
Reserve Best Bitch was Holban Goosander owned and bred by Pauline and Stuart, Best Puppy was Antdela Coconut Quin (Fynder
Only Joking & Antdela Alantra Sh CM )owned by Miss S Symonds and bred by Ant Andrews. I see from the results that Vickie
withheld the 1st prize in the Junior Bitch class.
Chris & Keith Attwood also had success at this show when the Chinese Crested Puppy Dog
Doonbeg Bete Noir via Tteswood bred by them won Best Puppy Dog, it is owned by Ms D Dowsett.
I have just looked on the Higham Press website and I was
delighted to see that Judith and Dora gained Group 4 in the Gundog Group under Chris Bexon this follows
on from her winning the Gundog Group at the East of England Show two weeks ago Congratulations Judith and Dora.

Yesterday
was the IWSA Championship Dog Show at Tollerton, the weather was mainly fine but quite windy, we aso had a couple of short
showers. This year the judge was Marie Engstrom, (Coffees) she had an entry of 51 dogs with few absentees, a list of all the
winners will be on the website. In the dog classes, the Dog CC his important 3rd was Malanis Sandor
By Glenderry (Fynder Seabiscuit of Glenderry & Malanis Sapphire) owned by Vickie Norman-Massa and bred
by Hannah Cooper, he went on to win Best in Show, the Reserve Dog CC was his father Fynder Seabiscuit of Glenderry( AmCh /Sh
Ch CastlehillsQuantrum Leap For Fynder & Fynder Water Sprite) also owned by Vickie and bred by Pepi
Barrington Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Show was Antdela Toffee Crisp (Fynder Only Joking & Andela Alantra owned by
Lin & Paul Bradley and bred by Ant Andrews. The Bitch CC and Reserve Best in Show also winning her important 3rd
CC was Antdela Arabella (Sh Ch Zanfi Ego & Foulby Lincoln Lass) owned and bred by Ant Andrews Best Bitch Puppy and Reserve
Puppy in Show was Doonbeg Mahonia at Chessrose (Antdela Larix & Doonbeg Smitten) owned by myself and bred by Chris &
Keith Attwood.
As is
the tradition at all dog shows the club running the show provides the judge, stewards and Show Manager with a lunch, this
year the judge decided she did not want to participate in the lunch provided but as the Show Manager and Stewards had been
working without a break since 8 am in the morning and the lunches had been paid for it was decided to go ahead with the lunch
and make it as short as possible, which we managed to do in 30 minutes.
Unfotunately this meant we missed the beginning of the talk that Marie gave on the breed.
As usual
we had many visitors from abroad, I was delighted to meet Kathy Sproat from Australia for the first time, also Jeremy Kezer
and his wife, Jeremy took loads of photos which we hope to display on the website.
Thank
you for putting your hands in your pockets and buying raffle tickets it is much appreciated.
I had
an e-mail from Ant Andrews, he went to thr Alfreton Show today and kept the flag flying, Antdela Lucianna won theJunior Class
and Best of Breed under Susan Webster, then went on to win the Gundog Group under Eddie Webster then Reserve
Best in Show following in her mother’s footsteps the day before, the judge for Best in Show was Gordon Haran, it surely
must be a record mother and daughter winning Reserve Best in Shows on consecutive days. While I am on the subject of records
I think it must also be a record this weekend for Vickie and the Pie as subject to KC confirmation, the Pie became a Show
Champion at the tender age of 1 year and 17 days, I do not know of any other Irish Water spaniel gaining his title at this
young age, if you know differently perhaps you can let me know.
I also had the following e-mail from Zoe Stirk” Morning
Jean Hope you have recovered from Saturday’s Show. It sound like it was a very enjoyable day, I really wanted to go
but I had to get the Englis Setters ready for a show the next day. I must admit I was pleased I was not showing with all the
running round the ring you all did!! However I did regret this as the next day at the Southern English
Open show the judge (Mr Andrew Brace ) sent us round the large ring so many times I lost count , it was worth it as Florence
(Ravensett Diamond Romance with Grakar) won Reserve Best In Show. She won several cups, money and even a posh coat for herself
Florence is owned by Graham, Karen & Zoe Stirk”
On a personal note, thank you all for the cards and presents
you gave me for my birthday, it was very kind of you.
Keep the news coming.

After judging at the IWSA Championship
Show next Saturday, the judge Marie Engstrom from Sweden has kindly agreed to a conduct
a small talk and a question and answer session, the Officers and Committee hope that as many members as possible will stay
to listen to what should be an extremely interesting end to the day.
I am pleased to say that Roger Taylor will be able to attend the show to spectate but owing to his
recent mild stroke Neil Hume will be taking over his duties as Show Manager.
Pat Wake who has been on the IWSA Committyee for the last few having successfully run
the IWSA Merchandise Stall decided this year to have a break for a while so new committee member Hazel Walker has taken over
and has been busy buying new stock which we hope will be of interest to all members.

celebrate my 70th.

It was disappointing that many IWS exibitors living in the North of the Country
had decided not to enter, Don and I decided to have a few days break at the show, we went to the Showground on Thursday and
stayed until Sunday, IWS owners Pauline and Stuart Furber were staying on the site, and had entered the show and Stuart was
also stewarding for a couple of days, while Stuart was busy Pauline joined us for chat and we were also
joined for afternoon tea by Roger Taylor who was the Group Steward for the the duration of the show as
well as being the welcoming face along with Chris Bexon on the gate greeting the exibitors and visitors. A
few hundred people attended the Disco and Fish and Chip Supper on the Saturday evening, any profit from this being donated
to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, this was the first time that Don and I had attended this event and
we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, everyone was so friendly. On a personal note, Crazy Daisy was again taken into the ring by
young Georgia Brown and won the puppy bitch classs.
I was sorry to hear the our Chairman Roger Taylor was taken ill on the last day of the Blackpool Show, he is now
recovering but has been “grounded “ by his doctor for a while, we all wish you a speedy recovery Roger.
Yesterday was Gundog day at The Windsor Championship
Show, as this is my nearest show I usually attend but this year I was fortunate to obtain tickets for the Mens Final at Wimbledon
so Chris Attwood came for the weekend and we had a lovely day out watching our favourite Dishy Rafel Nadal winning the title
for the second time , so I am gratefull to Ant Andrews for the results from the show, IWS were judged by Chris Bexon whom
some of you will remember from a couple of years ago when he judged the IWSA Show, he had an entry of 23 with none absent
on the day Dog CC and Best of Breed was Sh Ch Antdela Oleander Sh CM owned by Ant Andrews, Reserve Dog CC winner
was Hoilbain Muddy Duck owned by Pauline and Stuart Furber and Angie and Ian Biggs, the Bitch CC was awarded to Sh Ch Stanegate
Sparks Will Fly (AI) owned by Judith Carruthers and the Reserve Bitch CC was won by Antdela Arrabella owned by Ant. Best Puppy
was Antdela Toffee Crisp owned by Lyn and Paul Bradley , Oleander (Ollie) went on to be short listed in the Gundog Group under
Judge Mrs Valerie Foss, Ant had a very successful day, his bitch Antdela Lucianna (AI) won the Junior Stakes
under Judge Mr S Plane and then Lucie and Ollie won the Brace Stakes under Judge D Spavin.
A few days after the IWSA Championship Show at Nottingham I
shall be celebrating my 70th Birthday, I therefore would like to invite all who are attending
to join me for a class of wine to celebrate this occasion.
I have just heard that another of our long term members, Hilary Robinson who lives in Northern
Ireland is not very well, I am sure you will join me in wishing her a speedy recovery.
