Your weekly IWSA News, by Jean Gomm.

2nd May 2008

I am sorry to say that I cannot give anymore information as to whether Sh Ch Zanfi Elder gained further success at the United Spaniel Open Show as mentioned in my notes last week, although I e-mailed his owner, to date I have had no reply but I am sure that those of you who buy Dog World /will read about any further success in the Irish Water Spaniel Breed notes.

Last Saturday was Gundog Day at WELKS, the breed was judged by Elizabeth Cooper (Malanis), who was awarding CC’s in the breed for the first time. Dog CC was awarded to Sh Ch Zanfi Theban owned by Mrs E Waters, RDCC Byjazz Reggae owned by Brenda Triffitt, BCC Sh Ch Zanfi Tabitha owned by Mr N Waters, RBCC Antdela Arabella owned by Anthony Andrews Best of Breed was Sh Ch Zanfi Tabitha and BP was Antdela Oleander owned by Anthony Andrews.

I understand that a lot of the dogs being shown had different handlers from normal because of arthritis of the spine I have not been able to show my dogs for many years but I have been very fortunate that Chris Attwood always takes them into the ring for me and it is still a thrill and pleasure to come home with a place card.

There was a meeting of some of the” Golden Oldies “around the ringside watching the judging, I am not referring to their ages but the time that they have been involved in various ways in the breed although all of them are now what it called senior citizens, taking the time to watch were Caroline Baxter,( Princhetts,), Ann McDermott (Kitebrook) Susan Reid, Joyce Webb (Shannonlee) and Chris Attwood (Doonbeg) , they made up a total of over nearly 200years of interest and experience with IWS. It was also encouraging to hear that several of the candidates who took part in the IWS Specific Breed Judging Seminar also took the time to watch the judging.

I am sorry to say that there has been a small hold up with the Year Book, I was expecting to have it posted out to you by now, but we were not happy with the proof-reading copy, so have asked to have another one, the committee would rather it go out a bit late and correct then for it to be sent out with mistakes, I am labelling the envelopes at the moment so it hopefully will not be long now.

Thank you to all of you who have been in touch with me regarding these notes, I am pleased that you are enjoying them, as you say not everybody bothers to buy the dog papers, and it is nice to hear other members stories but of course I would not be able to write the column without you, so please keep your news coming, incidentally any news you send should be on the website within a week.
