Your weekly IWSA News, by Jean Gomm.

8th May 2008

A very unusual story to start with, I think it will be of interest to you.  Chris Attwood phoned me this evening, to say she had a telephone call today from a gentleman who lives in Ireland who has had Irish Water Spaniels for many years, he informed her that his daughter is getting married later this year in Scotland and they wanted an IWS to be at the Wedding and did Chris know of anybody who had one and would be willing to take them to the Wedding. Chris has contacted a member in Scotland to see if they can help with this unusual request, this is certainly one of Chris’s unusual tasks; I will keep you informed as to the outcome
While on the subject of coincidences, on Don’s 70th Birthday, our son David paid for all the family to go to one of the local theatres, we had a drink in the bar, sat in our sits and I was surprised to see Debbie Luff (another IWS owner) walking towards me, we saw her again after the performance had finished and we both commented on what a very good show we had seen, this is the second time in less than a year when we have bumped into other IWS enthusiast ices, the previous one being last August when Don and I took our two granddaughters along with Buddy to Hayling Island for the day, we were in the amusement park, watching the girls on the fair rides when we bumped into Peter Rochford and Gary Somers, who had taken Gary’s nephews and nieces who were over from Ireland on holiday to the funfair.

I had two phone calls last Sunday, the first from Ant Andrews who had been to the dog show at the Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society Dog Show the previous day, IWS did not have classes but Ant’s puppyAntdela Oleander won AV Gundog Puppy and was Best Gundog Puppy in Show, the judge was Robin Searle. The other phone call was from Karen Stirk, who’s husband Graham judged IWS at Mid Western Gundog Society Show, I understand that the show had a change of venue which was Bromyard Herefordshire, which seem to affect all the entries, not just IWS’ Graham’s BOB was Cuboglach West Coast Lady, owned by Mr Martyn Ford, RBB was Byjazz Reggae owned by Brenda Triffitt.

Today has been Gundog Day at Birmingham National Show, the breed had CC’s on offer and the judge was Mrs F Marshall, there were only 31 dogs entered and there were 6 absent on the day, Mrs Marshall gave the DCC to Sh Ch Zanfi Ego, owned by Mrs E Waters, RDCC was Foulby Fireworks owned by Mrs A Williams and Mr D Craig BCC was Stanegate Sparks Will Fly (AI) owned by Judith Carruthers and RBCC was Antdela Arabella owned by Ant Andrews, Best Puppy  at his first show was Fynder Sea Biscuit of Glenderry owned by Vicky Norman-Massa  ,Sh Ch Zanfi Ego was BOB.

Last year the committee of the IWSA decided to sponsor Rosettes for any classes of IWS’s when the Society concerned appointed a judge from the Associations judging list, this was done to try and help up and coming judges get appointments, and help them gain experience in judging the breed. Liz Brown did write to all the Societies but if any of you know of any show that has classes for IWS perhaps you would like to let them know just in case they have not received the information, so far this year, we have or are sponsoring three shows
