The Irish water spaniel association 35th championship show
Saturday
17th July 2010 at Hill farm
Judge:
Marie Engström Coffees Sweden
I will
just start to say thank you members to invite me to judge your dogs. The Association members voted for me 1995 and that
made me go through with judge exams in Sweden.
My overall impression over the day was temperaments and teeth have improved but
variation in the breed is somewhat broader now than what is was in 1989 what is lacking now Is the correct form, expression
and colour of eye the forefaces, stops and high dooms was good but dogs had to much cheek and not enough chiselling .Teeth
have improved there was a couple of dogs with even bites but most had big white teeth some people need to spend more time
cleaning teeth than brushing out coat .Even tough the English standard doesn’t call for the
beard it was nice to see most of the dogs with beards some dogs had high set ears and short ear leathers shoulders
and upper arms have improved but there was very few dogs with a proper barrelled rib cage but most dogs
heads were carried above the level of the back some croups were steep so the dogs looked as if they were running under themselves
instead of driving from behind , dogs need muscle to get going, exercises them more and on purpose to built
muscle. Four dogs had outstanding large feet and most had good padding underneath .The standard calls for
curls and ringlets. Too many dogs were brushed out, and silky and soft and not prepared properly with water.
It is
important to trim and prepared dogs into the standard not out from it. There are other breeds to choose
from, if you would like to have straight haired brown dog.
