About The Event

We are back at Wellingore Memorial Hall for our Open Day on Sunday 21st July 2024. It will be a fun packed day with lots of activities to try out and an opportunity to meet other IWS and their owners. Also, an ideal opportunity for those researching the Breed as a potential addition to the Family and for Breeders researching pedigrees and bloodlines to assist in their Breeding programmes!

Open Day activities

Sadly, it has proved impossible to arrange a Judge for the Limited Obedience Show this year so we are doing something a little different. We will offer an Obedience Workshop with a ‘Just for Fun’ show in the afternoon to test your skills. This will be an opportunity to learn more about Obedience competitions with some great hints and tips to maximise your scores. The workshop will be facilitated by our lovely Member Sue McCafferty who is a qualified Trainer for Obedience and the KCGCDS, she has also owned, shown and trained IWS for over 30 years so knows just how much fun training an IWS can be! To find out more about Obedience check out the KC website. (See here for New To Obedience)

We are once again offering an opportunity for IWS owners to take the KC GCDS Bronze Assessment. Our KC Assessor for the Bronze is our own Penny Willoughby (Foulby IWS) who has owned, bred, shown and trained IWS for more years than she cares to remember so, you will be in very good hands! To find out more about the scheme and what you will need to train for check out the KC website.

(See here for Taking part in the Good Citizen Dog Training scheme)

We are also delighted to confirm that this year we are able to offer the opportunity to take the KCGSDS Silver assessment for those who have already achieved the Bronze Award. Your Assessor for this will be Sue McCafferty.

Scent work – There will be opportunities throughout the day to have a go with your IWS at Scent Work. As an active Gundog breed the IWS of course has a great nose and activities like this are a great way to have some fun and develop their natural abilities too!

Gundog Training / Fun Gundog Scurry – our experienced Gundog Training team will be available throughout the day for help and advice on any aspect of Gundog training from the basics to the more advanced, plus we will have some fun activities including a timed Scurry just for Fun for you to have a go, don’t’ miss it!

Sponsorship

We would love to hear from anyone who can offer sponsorship for this weekend. All of the activities at the Open Day are free to all IWS owners and we try to ensure that their effort are rewarded with lots of prizes and goodies for everyone attending. If you would like to sponsor the event or if you have a canine related business or have contacts with someone who has and can offer anything suitable either as prizes, samples for exhibitors or even raffle prizes please get in touch!
