Irish Water Spaniel Health Monitoring

Recognised as being a vulnerable breed, a typical veterinary practice might never see an Irish Water Spaniel, and those that do are unlikely to see many of them. Consequently, with the IWS population spread so very thinly across the country - and indeed across the world - should the breed start to exhibit any worrying health trends it would be difficult and might take some time to see a pattern emerging.

The Irish Water Spaniel Association would like to help identify and track any emerging issues that need to be investigated (for example, a sudden increase in incidence of 'B Lymphoma').

To this end, we would like to invite IWS owners and breeders to complete a Health Questionnaire whenever their IWS falls ill so that over time we are able to build up a picture of ailments affecting the breed and thus hopefully be able to assess the overall health of the breed.

If you are able to report previous as well as newly-spotted ailments this would also be appreciated.

The Health Questionnaire can be completed by CLICKING HERE.

Submissions to the survey will be treated with strict confidentiality and will only be seen by Mandy Clarkson. The information will only be used for monitoring purposes which will guide future actions/recommendations for inclusion in the Breed Health and Conservation Plan (BHCP) . If you would like more information on how submissions will be used, or if you have any other concerns please contact Mandy directly, by email at: macclarkson29@gmail.com

Thank you in advance for completing a Health Questionnaire. Over time, we hope to be able to report on breed health trends and concerns.
