THE IRISH WATER SPANIEL ASSOCIATION - BREED WELFARE & RESCUE  SCHEME

The Irish Water Spaniel Association's Welfare and Rescue Scheme is here to assist / help any IWS and its owner or breeder whether or not they are members of the IWSA.

The Scheme is able to operate through use of a dedicated reserve which The Irish Water Spaniel Association can draw from to finance the rescue and welfare cases it is actively involved with. This reserve is maintained solely through the generosity of members and friends, with some additional funding that we are able to raise at our events. We do not "sell" dogs or have a fixed charge for helping dogs find new homes when needed but we are very grateful for any donation made to this fund, however small.

We ensure every dog going through our rescue scheme is vet health-checked before going to his or her new home, and any treatment they need is arranged. The donations we receive into the welfare fund help us carry out the work some dogs require before being placed in their new homes. If you are able to offer a donation to help us continue making these arrangements please contact our Rescue and Welfare Coordinator, or our Treasurer, to discuss your kind offer.

IWS might need re-homing for a variety of reasons, including their current owners ill-health, death, or divorce.  Sometimes dogs are boisterous and the owner cannot cope, others are in a situation with owners who do not understand the breed or their needs. Every dog is different, and can dogs vary considerably, as do sometimes the needs of each dog. So, when arranging a new home, great care is taken to match each dog to its new owner.

Here are some of the dogs we've been able to help find new homes. We were recently able to help "Eddie" - see his story here

PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO GET IN TOUCH SHOULD YOU REQUIRE HELP WITH YOUR DOG - WE ARE HERE TO HELP!

AS WELL AS RE-HOMING WE CAN ALSO AT TIMES ASSIST WITH TEMPORARY CARE BY ARRANGING A FOSTER HOME (SHOULD YOU HAVE TO GO IN HOSPITAL, FOR EXAMPLE).

If you could offer a permanent home or be able accept an IWS to foster for a  while,  or if you'd like to help in any other way  the IWSA's  Rescue &   Welfare Coordinator (Lois Ferrans) would love to hear from you. Please download and complete the NEW OWNER ADOPTION FORM (available here in WORD Format or in PDF Format) and send this BY POST - her address is on the Form - to Lois to register your interest. On receipt, Lois will make contact to discuss the process with you.  Her contact details are as follows:-
